There is bread and salt between us.
Blake and I were lucky enough to be invited to an intimate dinner with Chef Josh Lewin of a Bistro in Boston, MA. He was out here for a few days, and really is the nicest person. You can just feel generosity and passion spilling out of him. The menu was of course, to die for. I am not a cook myself, but that all the more makes me appreciate expertise such as his.
Josh found me through the Kinfolk website, and I once again, am so grateful for the people I have met through doing that dinner. Honestly, it attracts the kind of people you not only want to work with, but the kind of people you want to be friends with.
While Josh was traveling through the middle east, he became very familiar with an Arabic phrase 'baynatna khubz wa milah', which translates to 'there is bread and salt between us'. It refers to although there is much strife in the world, there is an enduring bond between people who have sat and shared a meal together.
Here is to Josh, and here are a few photos I snagged when things were winding down.
Flowers // lomo camera
Earlier this year there was a big storm, and Blake went to take Annie out during it. He came back with a hand full of flowers that had been blown off a potted plant outside our building. I don't know why, but this meant more to me then new flowers from the store, or something he could have planned. This is why I married this guy- he is always thinking of others- especially me.
The camera in this photo is a lomo camera from the 50's. Blake got it for me for Christmas- the best part is that its converted to 35mm, and for me, thats perfect. I don't have anyone right around me who will develop my medium format film, so I prefer 35mm.
Oh yes, and the flowers are old, and dead, and dried out. But I still think they are beautiful. Not sure how I will ever throw them away.
My favorite Christmas present.
We just had our first Christmas together. I cant even begin to explain how special this Christmas was for me. I felt so at home with my sweet husband, even though I was far from my own family. Its amazing how much I love his family- and how grateful I am to have them. It was a Christmas full of tradition, snow, happiness, decorations, home cooked food, love and I cherished every moment of it side by side with the person I love the most in this world.
I feel so lucky to be the girl married to Blake. When we were engaged, I met a bunch of Blake's best friends and their wives all at once (whom I sincerely love now). One of the husbands said, "Great, now that Blake is married we can all give up- He is going to make the rest of us husbands look bad". I dont think I did anything more then any girl to deserve the loving husband I have. I also dont think other people aren't amazingly happy- but I truly feel like the luckiest person and I think everyone should get the chance to feel like that.
Utah bound // almost.
I am coming to Utah from the 22nd to January 4th!
I really cant even wait. I cant wait for mountains, Christmas, family and friends. But mostly I am looking forward to my sweet husband getting to give his brain a break for a few weeks. I am so proud of him, and he really deserves it- semester I of Law School is rough!
...If you would like to schedule a photo shoot, I would love to do one with you. Contact me for details on dates and pricing.
On another note, I have neen trying to get this little beauty up and running for a while now. It hasnt happened mainly due to my lack of diligence. I also have decided (with the advice of a friend) to convert it to use AAA batteries since dealing with the old ones is a bigger pain (Believe it or not). So I will pretend to be an electrician (If i fail, Blake will probably figure it out) so I can finally use the instant film I have had sitting on my desk.
