Documentary Arts Asia

Sometimes things happen, just to tell you to keep moving forward. To keep doing what your doing.

For a while, I have been struggling with finding my place in the photography world. For a while, I have quit trying to "make" it as a photographer professionally and decided to become an enthusiast, since really, thats what I am. I just want to love it, and let it be part of me, and eventually I will find out how I am a part of the photography world.

So, I went to the Foundry Workshop for Documentary Photography in Thailand this last summer. It was incredible, and I got to me many photojournalist who's work I have been following for years. I was nervous the entire time, as most participants are very talented, and working photojournalists. It is not a competitive atmosphere, it is a learning and networking one.

To be honest, I almost didn't even submit my story because I was not feeling confident in my photographs. But, alas, my wonderful teacher Andrea Bruce, encouraged me to.

Documentary Arts Asia, chose 24 photographs from the entire workshop to go in an exhibit. And they chose mine. Wait, what? I couldn't believe it. You can read about and eventually view the exhibit here.

"This exhibition represents Chiang Mai, as seen through the hearts and lenses of some of the most talented young photographers in the world right now."  -Documentary Arts Asia. I don't mind to have been numbered among them.

I will post my entire story on Elephant Rehabilitation in Thailand soon.

Labor day with Annie: Scenes from Chicago

While Blake studied, Annie and I went on a long-leisurely-lolly-gaggin-lingering-labor-day walk. Although trying to do 'selfers' with Annie Jo wasn't working out so well, I did learn that Annie likes to look out at the water. A lot. She is a pretty introspective dog. I mean, she is half greyhound.

I promise to post more then just my dog. I just can hardly get enough. More photos from this summer travels and foundry experience coming right up! Even cooler is that I got in an Exhibit in Thailand! Cant wait to tell you about it.

Parents in Chi-town

One really nice part about being in Chicago is my mom and step dad are closer then ever before in Minnesota. They drove down to my little brothers football game in Wisconsin on Saturday and then continued their drive to us in Chicago! Chicago has some really cool history. We went on the Chicago Architecture cruise last night. It was actually really cool. We had a great guide, and it was very informational.

The coolest is Streeterville where we live. We aren't even on land, we are debris. Mr. Streeter's boat got stuck on a sand bar and it all built up from there. Look it up.

Also, This video my best friend Megan sent me about photographs. Its amazing.

Normally, I see beautiful photographs and I think "How can I do this myself, how did they create these photos?" but this time, all I could do was think about how I want to stand for something like the people in these photographs, I want to be courageous like many of the people in these photographs.

In my mind, thats a successful photograph. The one that truly inspires.
